Blackhead

A blackhead is an open comedo that is filled with an excess of oils and skin cells. Blackheads are often found on the skin of the nose, chin and ears. Although they are often thought of as dirt beneath the skin surface, this is actually caused by skin pigments and oxidized sebaceous secretions. A person with a very clean face can still get blackheads.

Although blackheads are a non-inflammatory form of acne, the oily substance within the blackhead creates the perfect conditions for the growth of bacteria beneath the skins surface which can ultimately lead to infected acne pustules.
