Hormones are chemicals in the body that stimulate various reactions throughout the body. In the case of acne, hormones can cause the stimulation of the oil gland causing the over-secretion of oil into hair follicles. Acne most often occurs in teenagers going through puberty as hormones stimulate growth in all parts of the body.
