Propionibacterium acnes
Propionibacterium acnes is a common bacteria on human skin. Normal levels of bacteria on the skin will not normally cause acne inflammation. Propionibacterium acnes causes acne inflammation when there are abnormally high levels of the bacteria present in a follicle, causing an influx of white blood cells to the site of the infection. This will occur when a comedo (blackhead or whitehead) is blocking off the flow of oxygen into the pore.
